Santa Claus

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war… and Santa.

When the Emperor began to forge his Empire across the Galaxy the most terrible of all problems faced the human race: how could Santa possibly deliver all of his presents to multiple worlds in just one night. As important as it was to save humanity from itself even the Emperor agreed that people receiving their pressies and making Christmas special was far more important.

In his divine wisdom the Emperor bestowed powers upon Santa to allow him to travel through the warp and reach every imperial world in one night; making sure that every child would receive his teddy bear, mother that vacuum cleaner, dad those socks or hopeful space marine that blue power armour he had been wishing for all year.

As the Emperors reach expanded, Santa did the math (using standard deviation of course) and found that even with the powers that had been bestowed upon him he would still not be able to deliver presents to all of the Emperors worlds in just one night. All seemed lost, until the most unlikely solution presented itself.

Thousands of years before, in the age of Jim Carrey, Santa had made peace with his old adversary The Grinch; it was he that Santa now turned to for help. The Emperor bestowed the same powers upon The Grinch as Santa and together they trail blazed a devastatingly fiery path of present giving.

After the Horus Heresy, the Imperium was left ravaged and in dire desolation; never before had good cheer been needed, but Roboute Gulliman looked to Santa to use his powers in a different way. He asked that Santa use them to go into battle and lend aid to the Ultramarines when needed to fight off the vile scum of chaos and ensure that Christmas was saved.

The Grinch

For many years The Grinch despised Christmas and plotted to steal the vile celebrations until his good friend Jim Carrey showed him a different side to Christmas: the real magic of festive cheer. Thousands of years later, he was flattered and overjoyed when The Emperor and Santa Claus asked whether he would help ensure that all presents were delivered to all planets within the Imperium.

As the years went by and Emperor and his Primarchs conquered more and more planets, The Grinch’s work load began to expand to the point where he could barely cope. When he took his concerns to his line manager; Santa, he was told that the financial year hadn’t been kind, the company’s hands were tied and the 364 days per year holiday that he received easily made up for the one nights work he did do; so he should stop complaining.

Still unhappy, The Grinch went above Santa’s head and slotted in an appointment to see the Emperor the following Wednesday at 14:00, just after lunch – but before that sleepy time that comes from eating too much. He planned to plead his case and also put in a grievance against Santa. Unfortunately, on Wednesday at 13:45 Horus launched his attack on earth and The Grinch’s appointment was never heard.

After the Heresy, The Grinch was enraged when Santa accepted Roboute Gulliman’s request  to aid The Ultramarines in battles throughout the year as well as all of their work on Christmas Eve. By chance, The Grinch spied a vacancy at a rival company; C. Haos Ltd which asked nothing more from him than to create the old chaos that he was so famous for in whatever hours he desired; even allowing him to work from home if he wished.

That very day, The Grinch left Santa’s employment and ever since they have been sworn enemies.
