LOL! Got to say all that talk of English players applying for Wales, or forming a ‘Team India’ with the cast (btw the Reddy’s are Irish…..) is certainly not going to improve any listeners (such as Blackmoor……) opinions of the legitimacy of the Home Nations teams.

You guys fancy digging any more holes 😛

Oh and Mike; I thought you were Wales A and England were henceforth known as Wales B until they came higher than you? Surely therefore as the A team you have no need to legitimise your choices 😉

At least I’m sure that was the deal in Switzerland.

As regards the 2 Oblits/3 Oblits thing, I completely get that nd the maths sort of plays out, if you look at it as a pass fail system.

Bs4 means on average 1 out of 2 hit but, 2 out of 3 hit, so your essentially doubling how effective your shooting is by adding 50% to the squad. Not perfect maths but, close enough.

Doom gets a wound added to his for every wound he causes no matter how he causes it.
Loved the show at usual thanks all for such top notch podcasting.

Thanks for the show, really enjoyed the big fight once again, was a it a record quickest KO? Considering Nathan didn’t pick up ANY dice, I think so!

Also, as the Big Fight is in the combat phase first? shouldn’t at least one round of combat take place before the shooting phase? Just to nit pick!! lol.

Think we have allowed a shooting phase before… but it was easiest the quickest KO we have had the show by far

Ah fair enough 🙂 Gary did sound proper gutted!

Although the Americans complain about the Home Nations, the reality is that the US would be hard pressed to field 2 teams to go to the ETC and play. You would need quality players who would be willing to spend a lot of time and money to go travel to Europe just to play a game of 40k. Most US players will not leave there own area for a game, yet alone their state or their country. You are talking about having to pay thousands of dollars to play for the US ETC team. Frankly I am surprised by the success they have had with getting the top players who have qualified to go. They have had the core of the group hand picked from good players who have had the financial resources to go, and the last couple of years they have added the top two qualifiers from Adepticon. This year they are replacing half of the team with people who are qualifying and we are going to see if they are going to have problems with people dropping out and committing.

So when I was wondering about the Home Nations and their countries I was thinking about Wales the other day and I was curious how many people live there? (I am willing to wager that well over 95% of Americans have no idea where Wales is) and it looks like there are only 3,000,000 Welsh, and Scotland comes in at 5,222,000. To give you some context here is the county I live in in a medium sized state with 3,800,000 people, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maricopa_County,_Arizona And just like you would think, Wales and Scotland would have more and better 40K players than here.

It reminded me of this map http://strangemaps.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/350816052_0a392a0d28_o1.jpg that showed you what countries each US state was equal too.

So America us just too large and unmanageable, and there is no way to find the best players in the country to pick 8 people out for the ETC. I suggested to Ben “Captain America” Mohlie that he should think about picking the best players for the team, but he wants to open it up for everyone and be democratic and have the winner of a couple of tournaments get on the team, but IMO that opens up a lot of possible problems. .

Aye, Britain as a whole, is incredibly densely populated compared to some other countries. And our ratio of 40k players to Plebs is even higher, which means we have many more players with the means and desire to attend the ETC. I really don’t think it causes too much of a problem, its not really diluting the field coz its not like the Scottish team will come back with the Trophy and let England here the last of it. More teams means more fun in my opinion.

      • Neil Kerr February 14, 2012 at 14:11 #

Oooooo that be fighting talk there!

Well tbh Scotland is not aiming for a top 3 placing (currently). We are being realistic with our goals as when you consider something like 4 or 5 times more players applied for England instantly they are at an advantage in terms of trying to select the most competitive team possible. That is not to disparage my fellow Scottish players gaming ability. Just that we are all aware, so to speak, that the challenge is that much greater for us, and therefore it is reflected in our own team goals (placing higher than last years 16th, retaining our Sporting Attitude, beating the English if we face them). Also that as a team we are just as concerned with everyone enjoying themselves as much as possible, not just winning, and so we are not overly worried about not getting up into the top 3.

All said and done though Scotland are still the ONLY UK team to have returned from the ETC with some silverware. We are still 1-0 up against England and all the other Home Nations is that respect 🙂
